Yes, i just had my debut ride as a Flywheel instructor, and yes i am beyond honored to have the opportunity to be a part of this amazing team, but before we start talking about all the amazing things about being a current instructor, i want to let you know that it was not easy to get here - but it was totally worth it. My journey with Flywheel Sports began last year in May when i took my first Flybarre class and fell in love with everything about it. As you may know, i am a fan of high intensity training and, let me tell you, when they say that this program is the barre method for athletes, they are not kidding. I came out of that class with my legs feeling completely like jello. I was shaking the entire class, even in the warm up - not joking. You can thank Cara Powe's attention to detail in the barre program for my obsession over it.
After that, i entered the Flybarre training program (an 8-week long program), and unfortunately was not able to fully complete it because my husband and i were transferred to Los Angeles. Fortunately for me, this was not the end of my journey with Flywheel. I was so determined to have the opportunity to be a part of the #FlyFam, because i am truly an advocate of the program. I had to try very hard to have an opportunity to audition in this very competitive city. I never gave up, and it was so worth it.
By this point, you could imagine that i had not only taken Flybarre classes, but Flywheel as well. I loved not only that i was held accountable because you could see the resistance (torq) and total score on your tech pack, but that i was also able to RACE others in the class! If you know me, you know that i am beyond competitive. My personality does not allow for anything else, especially in a fitness atmosphere. The moment they said "you have a 30-second race. 3 - 2 - 1 - GO!" I had tunnel vision, i was transported to a completely different place - dark rooms and loud music can do that to you. I was pedaling for my life and, no, i didn't win.
Fast-forward to December 2016, and i was auditioning to "Mr. Bombastic" in the Larchmont studio in front of the amazing Elizabeth Hill, who said "I totally think you can do this." I cried of happiness internally for a moment, did a mental full blown twerk routine, had Beyonce give me an achievement award and snapped back to reality in a second. The other trainees and I went through a 5-day intensive training program which basically consisted of 5.5 hours of cycling a day, and all graduated with so much more knowledge, confidence and charisma than we started with. I have to tell you that both Elizabeth Hill and Victor Self did such an amazing job in harnessing each instructor's individual personalities, that we all came out to have such unique training styles. I honestly think that each instructor's different flavor and sass really does make taking a Flywheel class such an amazing experience every time.
Anyway, there i was, on February 11th at 11:45 AM about to teach my debut class in Playa Vista, when i looked into the jam-packed room and thought, "Momma, did i really make it?" Then i played some Diplo, Major Lazer, made everyone twerk on a bike for 45 minutes, and responded, "Yes, i finally did."
