Healthy Father's Day Recipes He Will Love

June 13, 2017

So Father's Day is around the corner. Maybe you're planning a special day for your pops, husband or grandfather. Regardless of the occasion, healthy alternatives are in, and so is being alive longer. We've compiled a list of healthier meal alternatives your guy will still drool over - yes even the extra picky ones. Swap these common meals for the suggestions and note whether your man even notices the difference.

If your guy loves hamburgers:

Swap that greasy patty for a bison burger and that simple-carb bun for whole wheat/ gluten free for an added save. Bison meat is known to be much leaner than ground beef and includes omega 3 fats. Check out our favorite recipe Green Chile Bison Burger from EatingWell.com for some serious drool-inducing inspo and a delicious recipe for dad. Opt in for a side salad or baked sweet potato fries instead of french fries for some added health.

For the Burrito Man:

One thing our significant others absolutely love is a good burrito. This meal is known to be high in calories, carbohydrates and fat. Although that may not necessarily be a bad thing for an extremely active man (they have around 800-1,000 calories), it's good to have different options for those who are not so active, or have an average-active lifestyle. Check out this skinny chicken and black bean burrito recipe from BettyCrocker.com and enjoy 240 calorie burritos - win!  Swap out the tortilla chips for whole wheat pita chips and guacamole and you've got yourself a meal fit for a (long-living) king.

Into Italian?

Is your man really into italian food? Maybe he caves for a chicken alfredo recipe. Unfortunately, pasta is not the most low-cal food available, but that doesn't mean it's not good for you. Swap out your regular noodles for black bean pasta (is has 25g of protein and much less sugar - can you believe it!?). Try this spinach and marinara black bean pasta recipe from LiveandDiet.com and show your man that healthy can taste just as amazing! The pasta itself has a lot of protein, but if he says he wants added mean in there, feel free to throw in some chicken or shrimp. It will be amazingly filling.

You can never go wrong with Pizza:

Swap the regular take-out, greasy pizza order for some home-made whole wheat pizza dough. Swap out the regular flour for pastry flour and make it gluten free and nice and crunchy. Our go-to whole wheat pizza dough recipe can be found on CookieandKate.com and it comes as no surprise that it is labeled the "Easiest Whole Wheat Pizza Dough Recipe. You'll never want to order out again. Add whatever toppings your man prefers for a special "his day" treat. We highly recommend tomato, garlic and basil.

For a man who loves his steak:

We can't argue with the fact that steak is amazing. It has an amazing taste and for some reason it just resonates with men. According to MayoClinic.com, these are the extra lean cuts of red meat you can opt for when in the super market - (check out these recipes) eye of round roast and steak, sirloin tip side steak, top round roast and steak, bottom round roast and steak, top sirloin steak. Pair that with a greens salad, and some roasted potatoes and you've got yourself a daddy-approved meal.
