Low-cal Summer Cocktails That Actually Taste Good
July 4th is next week (that was fast), and that means we will be spending our summer days probably in an outdoor celebratory setting...eating things you shouldn’t and potentially drinking more than you should.
Lucky for you, we at EBS decided to do some very serious research – yes, including the arduous tasting task – and find out the top, refreshing low-calorie cocktails that actually taste good. Check out our list below and opt in for these drinks under 200 calories instead of reaching for that 300-400 calorie IPA or sugary long island. All recipes make one drink.
For the tequila lover: Paloma
If you're a tequila lover, this is the drink for you. The Paloma offers all of the flavors from your favorite tropical drinks, without all of the added sugars and preservatives, we're looking at you margarita. Averaging at 455 calories for a small margarita on the rocks, this skinny version saves you about 275 calories per serving. Try this alternative at the beach or during your next taco night!
-6oz Fresh Grapefruit Juice (1 Grapefruit)
-1tsp Lime Juice
-Grapefruit Flavored Sparkling Water
-Sea Salt (for the rim)
Instructions: Blend Grapefruit juice, lime juice, and tequila – shake. Add to glass with ice, spritz a splash of sparkling water over blend. Enjoy.
Tired of bland mimosas? Try this Pear, Apple & Thyme Fizz
This is deemed an EBS favorite. Although you have to be patient and wait for the thyme and pear to sit in the fridge for a bit, it is soooooo worth it. We even sprinkled a little pepper in it at the end. So yummy and different and sophisticated.
-1/4C Apple Juice
-1/4 Ripe Pear
-3 Sprigs Fresh Thyme
Instructions: Combine apple juice, thyme, pear and thyme. Stir and allow to sit refrigerated for 1-2 hours. Discard thyme and add champagne. Add thyme for garnish.
For a tropical vibe: Skinny Mojito
All of the amazingness of our favorite summer drink, minus all the unnecessary added sugars. Try this lighter twist to a classic for all day enjoyment and no guilt, saving you about 77 calories per serving. And hey, they add up.
-5 Mint Leaves
-1/2 Lime (cut into slices)
-1.5oz White Rum
-1tbsp Light Agave Syrup
Instructions: Muddle mint leaves and lime slices. Add rum and agave syrup. Top with Soda water. Garnish with lime wedges & mint leaves
Small but mighty: Pom Punch
We were not expecting for this drink to taste like the vodka version of an old fashioned, but it did. and we are so excited about it. This is for the person who likes straight beverages or is looking for something with a punch.
-1/4C Pomegranate Juice
-1/2 Lime (Squeezed)
-Splash of Coconut Water
-Splash of Soda Water
Instructions: Combine vodka, pomegranate and lime. Shake. Top with light splash of coconut water and soda water. Garnish with Lime. Tastes like a Sour old-fashioned.
