I don't remember a time when I wasn't obsessed with Halloween. Maybe it's because October is also my birthday month or simply because I get to create and express a different side of me all month long (yes, Halloween is ALL of October). Whatever the reason may be, Halloween is my all time FAVORITE holiday. If you know me personally, you know. I don't want to brag or anything, but I'm the queen of costumes. I think this is a good time to drag you along my Halloween highlights.
My earliest creation (I think) was Katy Perry. Blue eyed, blue haired, cupcake boobed beautiful goddess. Before I take you on this creative roller coaster I must add that the actual costume for this Katy Perry look was sold in stores the following Halloween, not the year I made it. I still believe I was the originator and if you don't agree please go away.
-- Cupcake bra was made using paper bowls painted brown, expanding glue to form the cupcakes and painted once dried, add real sprinkles while it's semi wet and a make believe cherry with hot glue. Glue onto a blue sports bra and voila!
-- Old blue shorts were bedazzled with rhinestones EVERYWHERE.
-- Headband was a cheap headband (probably from Walmart), cardboard heart painted blue with the tip cut off so it would glue onto the headband.
-- For the ring I used a piece from some ring maker kit my little sister had, saved a blue bottle cap to use as a cupcake base, and used a small amount of expanding glue to create a tiny, cute ass cupcake ring.
Here's another favorite (OMG NOSTALGIA)
Sally from Nightmare before Christmas. Not familiar? Again, please go away.
-- I found a cheap nude bra that fit comfortably at Ross & an old brown skirt from my closet that I could surrender.
-- Fabric paint. Everything you see is fabric painted on and the bottom of the skirt was cut to match the character.
-- Red spray paint for my hair, and liquid eyeliner to draw all the stitches. EASY PEASY.
Okay THIS is probably my all time favorite just because I surprised the hell out of myself when I was done.
The Corpse Bride (shoutout to my fiancé for letting me paint his face that year).
-- White corset and grey-ish skirt from Goodwill.
-- Use fabric paint to match the corset with the skirt, then I got creative with rhinestones to add details ( obvs I'm obsessed with shiny stuff).
-- Use fabric paint to add the details on the top & bottom of the skirt plus more bedazzling.
-- Headband was made with a bunch of fake flowers and vines (Michael's) glue gunned to a clear headband & an old piece of an actual veil from Goodwill.
-- Face paint y ya. I seriously love this one so damn much.
Eventually. I took my costumes to another level and started designing them, fabric hunting and having them made. This is how my small business, Inner Beings, was born.
Entertainment and costume rentals for the win. If you're a Miami local, I'm happy to tell ya that you CAN rent any of these looks (and more on my IG page @inner.beings). Here are some of my favorite creations!
Intergalactic (one of my first original designs).
